2003-06-01 [Mitul]: Hmm... it seems that I'm the only one signed up... no matter :) I can have you all to myself :) So... do I jusst ask questions? Well, I was just wondering... Is it possible to get published at a young age? I know, I know, it's really, REALLY rare, but I was just thinking...?
2003-06-01 [User deleted]: Of course it is. It is rare because real talent is rare and because publishers seem to be a bit suspicious and afraid to put something out that doesn't fit in the market. The other option, doing the publishing yourself is even harder at a young age.
2003-06-01 [Mitul]: Yeah, they're just afraid of change, that's all it really is, I think. I mean, I've been told that my stuff is really good, and personally, when I look at my work, I really think that it's really good! I hope I don't sound conceited or anything... hey, would you take a look at my Demonslayer series? It's on my Wyvern's shelf, you can get to it from my house. Tell me if I'm just being stupid, and have no chance whatsoever, or if it's actually worth something... so far, that is. I'd really appreciate it. I'm only asking cause there's no one else here, lol.
2003-06-01 [User deleted]: There is always a chance, whatever people may say. And later on, I'll try and put on a thing about writing to agents and publishers. I haven't got anything published, but I have written my share of letters.
2003-06-02 [Mitul]: well, that'd be great :) A lot of times, the publishers won't accept anything that's not from an agent. Now THAT's just plain annoying...
2003-06-06 [Lozzenger2]: I think theres some legal issues involved if you're under 13. But yeah it's hard to get published, just try sending off your work without telling them how old you are! Muahaha
2003-06-06 [Mitul]: lol, well, I'm 14 in any case, so I guess I'm good :) Who am I supposed to send it to anhow...?
2003-06-06 [User deleted]: You could type "Publishing Agents" in Google and look for adresses. I do not know how agents work, because in Holland, there is no such thing.
2003-06-06 [Mitul]: Yeah, well, you know, I'm mostly just asking out of curiosity. I'd try and work on my shelf some more before even considering trying to get published... I'm not even sure if I'm just being overconfident in myself...
2003-06-06 [Lozzenger2]: It's best to send off locally, or perhaps try to find a local arts centre and build up contacts from there, they're suprisingly handy and they'll tell you if they really think you're good or not. You really shouldn't go straight for the big publishers anyway, my mum writes poetry, some of her best stuff has been rejected but still hasn't given up, she's been published only twice in books but that's enough to grant you the ticket to build up your reputation if you play your cards right...ok, now I'm waffling
2003-06-06 [User deleted]: But you are correct. I still have some vague contacts from when I won some contest, years ago. When confronted with me, they still remember. And, in the end, might be able to aid me, if I would ask them.
2003-06-06 [Mitul]: Sadly, there's not much of that kind of stuff around where I live. There are no real arts centres around here. Once in a while, there maybe some kind of a contest, but they're really cheesy. 1st place gets you $50!!!! Oh boy!!!! And besides, no one even takes them seriously.
2003-06-06 [User deleted]: Let me tell you: The price I got for winning that contest was a voucher worth $12,50 of books. But appearantly, someone of a local cultural event read the story and invited me to read it at this event. Then; he asked me to read some more. I have read about 4 stories there. You always start a mountain at the bottom, Mr. Mystery :)
2003-06-06 [Mitul]: Hmm... ok, well I'll keep that in mind :) But really, there's NOTHING going on. At all. I'm serious! So I'm just working my stuff on the web. Maybe I'll try Woodworks or something... But basically, I'm trying to get as many mod's choices as I can possibly get :)
2003-08-23 [Lozzenger2]: I know what you mean, in the town I come from the arts centre there is the only one around for miles, and it's crap. It's run derilict for months and really needs some fresh blood. In fact the only thing around that's still open is the Museum and art gallery, but thats for the top people already in the art world. Suffice to say it's difficult to get recognised, but keep you eyes open, even the smallest thing could be your ticket to the top, be it a locally circulated hospital paper in need to some pictures to help spruce up them pages or even a one off thing like a small border for a leaflet advertising window cleaners: check what you get sent through your letterbox, you never know ;)
2004-12-10 [Prettyinpink2]: I'm here, do you want me to put my name under the teachers list?Oh yeah, is it against elftown rules to ask people to join?
2004-12-10 [Lozzenger2]: I've added your name to the list of teachers. If you wish to advertise, it's not against the rules to do, but if you'd rather not bother people directly, it's best to just put a link in your house somewhere :)
2004-12-13 [Prettyinpink2]: Coolness
2005-08-09 [Jeed]: welp, i'm the new professor since lozzenger2 hasnt been here for awhile. any questions?
2005-08-18 [Prettyinpink2]: Yeah,am I still a teacher?
2005-08-20 [Jeed]: nope, sorry, unless you want to coem up with a new class?
2005-08-24 [Lozzenger2]: Actually I have been here, I find it slightly rude that there was a take-over without even so much as a mail sent in my direction. But then who am I to argue? It's true I didn't give this place as much attention as I should have, I appreciate your willingness to resume my duties, I hope you can achieve your goals to a higher standard that what I did.
2005-08-24 [Jeed]: well you hadnt been on in 50 days or so. but i shall do my best to make this department the best it can be
2005-08-24 [Lozzenger2]: Yes, sadly I've been very busy in the real world. Good luck with this, you seem very determined :)
2005-08-25 [Jeed]: thank, i appreciate it
2005-09-06 [Prettyinpink2]: Well,just thought I could've been notified also.Gonna miss you Lozzie.But I give my duties as a teacher up as well
2005-09-07 [Jeed]: ok then
